Public Zoom Our generation has entered an ‘awakening’ in terms of Politics of Identity. In the midst of a global pandemic, we finally get an ‘excuse’ to take some steps back and reflect on inquiries related to our creative practices. Where do we come from? Where do we stand?
لقد دخل جيل الحاضر في وعي مهماً من حيث مجال سياسة الهوية. وسط وباء علمي، كدنا نسترجع افكارنا وندرس المطالب الأساسية التي تخص اختراعاتنا. من أين جئنا؟ أين نحن الآن؟
As two Middle-Eastern expats, we have been working on re-evaluating ‘pop-culture archives’ related to migratory waves and cultural absorption in the context of our master studies. We are closely looking into notions of diasporic language and archives as authoritarian territory. With the feedback and professional gaze of Maya Moumne & Hatem Imam (co-founders of Studio Safar, Beirut), we are wanting to break down our research process. What does it mean to conduct such archival investigations outside the region? How does this process differ from doing it from there? Who is ‘entitled’ to do it? For who? For what?

A critical investigation on how ‘Middle-Eastern’ displaced visual/graphic artefacts get influenced by the ‘West’ and what themes emerge from analysing such an archive.
تحقيق نقدي حول المصنوعات الرسومية البصرية من الشرق الأوسط وتأثير الغرب عليها وما المواضيع التي تظهر بعد هكذا تحقيق.
The event will be a webinar co-hosted by Louise Gholam, Maya Moumne, Costas Kalogeropoulos and Hatem Imam. First introducing our relationship to archives through imagery, we will unpack our different methodologies towards this material and ways of learning from them. The form of the webinar will be explored in a physical space in London, where some of those archives currently live.
The audience will also be invited to take part in the interrogation process throughout the event. RSVP to join the conversation.
